This project consists of approximately 22 acres and is located off Nissan Parkway in Canton, MS. Once the hospital is completed, the two entrance roads to the hospital will be given over to MDOT as public right of ways. The project had approximately 100,000 CY of excavation and grading which was started during the fall of 2009, one of the wettest seasons for Mississippi in decades. With over 100 structures, inlets and manholes, crew laid 1.3 miles of storm drain, .6 miles of sanitary sewer and .7 miles of water line. All paved areas, approximately 40,000 SY, were completed with over 4 miles of curb and gutter.
The project’s center piece is a water feature designed with a Redi-Rock Retaining Wall System. Each Redi-Wall block weighted 1,500 or 2,400 pounds (top or bottom block) and were individually set with an excavator. Birdsong Construction completed the estimated 90 day installation in approximately ½ the time estimated by the supplier.
This $42 million, 113,000 square-foot, 67 bed facility across I-55 in Canton, will be known as Madison River Oaks Hospital, and will replace the 45 year old facility currently on Peace Street in Canton. This new facility with state of the art equipment, will better serve the citizens of Madison County for years to come.
